Many people in today’s world suffer from anxiety, fear, worry and stress. It seems as if a spiritual war is going on in our emotions that effects even the most devoted of Christians. The Bible repeatedly tells us to fear not, and it instructs us to not worry, yet even aware of these scriptures we often do and then feel guilty for doing so. It can result in insomnia, poor health and reduced quality of life eventually. I found something that may be a game changer for those that, like I, sometimes find ourselves battling over our mind for peace.
A friend on Facebook posted a video by Joseph Prince that was called the “Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled Challenge” it was just a few minutes long but what a beautiful biblical teaching that has already started to help me. In fact the first night, I realized just how out of Gods Will I was in this emotional, mental, spiritual area. Before bed I often allow thoughts to rob me of sleep. Often these thoughts are little more than anxiety stirring thoughts. Thoughts of things I forgot to do, thoughts of bills that are coming up, thoughts of things I need to do…and occasionally more benevolent thoughts will enter my head. I may worry about loved ones who are ill, or imagine that World War Three is about to begin. I have two adult children living thousands of miles away from home and I dowse them with motherly worry.
The first night of this challenge I found myself amazed at just how many times I needed to say “Let not your heart be troubled” – I was unaware of just how much anxiety I endured before falling asleep. And it’s no shock that the quiet time before bed is one of the enemies favorite times to attack your mind, he loves for us to be emotionally, physically and spiritually weakened. None of which is Gods will. So in his challenge Joseph Prince instructs us to repeat “Let not your heart be troubled” as a direct order given by God, and the instant a thought that produces ANY level of anxiety enters your mind you put that scripture up like a mental shield deflecting it towards Jesus…allowing him to take care of it for you.
Joseph quotes the scripture “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” (1 Peter 5:7 ) as a secondary yet fundamental part of this reframing of your mind. Jesus wants us to bring him our burdens! Why? Because he cares for us! Just like your own earthly children, if they had a problem that was in your ability to solve for them, you delight in them coming to you for help! No one, including God, enjoys watching their children suffer! He does not delight in us trying to figure everything out on our own and thusly suffering in the process when he is by all means capable and willing to help us!
Step 1: Anxiety producing thought enters your mind (even small cares count)
Step 2: Repeat “Let not your heart be troubled” sending that “problem” directly to the Lord because he said to “cast our cares upon him because he cares for you”
Step 3: Commit to this for 7 days.
Sticking to this, and committing to applying that scripture to all earthly cares, is a simple yet extremely POWERFUL way to eliminate anxiety. I am here to testify that I am only a couple days in and it has changed my life for the better! The Bible has so much to say on leaving fear out of our lives. God doesn’t want us to be fearful or to wear the yoke of anxiety and worry! Why should we have any? We are children of the Almighty God! But alas we forget this and open ourselves up to all sorts of misery. This simple challenge is so easy to do, that’s why it’s so effective.
