I spent the Fourth of July weekend 5 hours away from home with my ex-husbands family. Weird I know, but it was a great reminder of what love truly is about and what family is about. I have no doubt that our earthly families and relationships are designed to show us what our heavenly family and relationships are about. They are a mirror here on earth reflecting heavenly, greater things above!
My ex-husband and I had two children together; my eldest son Elliott who is now 21 and my daughter Laurel who is now 19. Every year their fathers family has a reunion in Whitesburg, Kentucky. This summer Laurel wanted to go to Florida to spend some time with her Mamaw, Papaw, & her dad so I agreed to drive her to Kentucky so she could return to Florida with them. ( They drove up to the reunion from Florida )
Now mind you, this is my ex-husbands family. I was invited to stay the weekend with them and to attend the reunion. I stayed in my ex mother-in-laws sisters house with the rest of the family that were there from out of town. The family made me feel as if I belonged completely. I didn’t feel out of place, it was made very clear that I should just feel at home. I had coffee with them in the morning as if I had never divorced anyone – it truly was like one big happy family.
I think that is exactly what Heaven is going to be like. There isn’t going to be any record of past pains or disagreements. There won’t be any separations in our minds of who belongs or who doesn’t. We will just all be home – reuniting – and fellowshiping in love as one gigantic family with God the Father. The Bible makes it very clear that we are not considered anything less than children of God. Luke 20:36 states “neither can they die anymore: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.” We are equal to the angels! Then in Romans 8:16 it says “The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:“.
Galatians 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
I am prone to believe that is what Heaven will be like – an eternal celebration of the love of one gigantic family. I also am prone to believe that as children of God, still here walking upon earth, we should be ambassadors for the love of our Father who art in Heaven already! Be the love you wish you saw more of in the world. It truly is heartbreaking, perhaps overwhelming, when we look at the dire need for Jesus in so many peoples lives. Show them Jesus in your actions, act like Jesus in their need. Meet them where they are at and show them the compassion that Christ showed you!
Christ came to earth to show us his Fathers love & do his Fathers will; and now as heirs with Christ as children of the same Father we MUST do the same!
We forget where Christ found us sometimes. I don’t think it is healthy to dwell in the past by any means, but we must be careful in judging others too harshly. Christ found us in some pretty ungodly & screwed up situations and he did so with perfect love and compassion. He welcomed us with open arms filled with a type of love many of us had never experienced before our adoption into his family.
You are a child of God! Adopted into the family of God! You have been made equal to the angels! You have dominion and power over the devil! You walk triumphantly on this earth spreading God’s love to the lost! This is who you are if you have forgotten! You have millions of brothers and sisters all over the world and millions more awaiting your arrival at the big family reunion on the other side in Paradise! You are LOVED beyond measure!
Romans 8:15 For ye have not recieved the spirit of bondage again to fear, but ye have recieved the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
