A Reproducible Walk With The Lord

Actions speak louder than words. Is that not one of the truest statements ever made, or what? In our Christian walk it applies perhaps even with greater brevity. Everyday you wake up and go out into the world to be the light of Jesus Christ to a lost and suffering world. The devil wants you to forget that by the way. He wants you to wake up, check Facebook over coffee, get dressed and sit through traffic on your way to work, thinking only of what you will make for dinner and if your son remembered to pack his cleats for football practice. Your focus is on the world, and the cares there of, you are numb.

Your job is no different, you get in on the office gossip, secretly loathe certain people while punching in and out day after day. Most people are on auto-pilot. They go through life almost on a robotic level of interest to their surroundings. Most humans have two motivating factors – seek pleasure and avoid pain. Those two driving forces dictate the human experience and can take a human being from cradle to grave on auto-pilot. But see that doesn’t work for Christians who have accepted the role of disciple of Christ, we are called to be different. Our difference being the Christ in us, moving through the world, walking in our heavenly Fathers footsteps.

We want to reproduce Jesus Christ’s example, his life, his qualities. Not by trying to do them on our own, but submitting our will and allowing him to move through us in mighty ways. Jesus said “Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.” (John 5:19) He was the original creator of the reproducible walk.

Being a disciple of Christ takes discipline. Every morning, rise early and pray for your day and those around you. Read your Bible, not on and off but daily. Make this a top priority in your life. You eat food everyday to stay nourished, you must nourish your spirit by feeding it Gods Word. The Bible is health to our flesh and comfort to our minds. Between prayer and plugging into the Word you get energized with the Holy Spirits presence in you…you are his Tabernacle. You are a living, breathing, walking, talking church. You are moving about in the world being and doing as Jesus. Do as you see him do in your Bible. Speak truth, care for people. Show love and compassion. He desires mercy. Start at home with your spouse and children. Make Bible Study a family endeavor. Take an hour or two a week to have home church. When your kids get older your grandchildren will benefit from this as they have parents who will also reproduce what they saw their earthly parents do. The whole concept is to snap out of autopilot and get plugged in and aware of how important it is to be the salt and the light of the earth. You are reproducing what you wish there was more of in the world, love and kindness, and we only get that through Jesus Christ!

The Lord set a beautiful example of what being a disciple is like in his own walk here on earth. This is not works that I am speaking of. This is taking up your cross daily and deciding to do the will of your Heavenly Father – EVERYDAY – not just on Sundays or when you are in trouble or feeling like it. Do it even when you don’t feel like it! Change is never easy yet I assure you this change will transform your life as well as those around you! Get fired up for the challenge of dedicating your life to being a true disciple of Jesus Christ. When people spend time with you they should know you are different than the world. If you fit in with the world – you are not following Christ correctly. He said they will hate you because of me.

Christ set the example by obeying the Father all the way to the cross!

Matthew 26:39 – Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.”

John 5:30 – I can do nothing by Myself; I judge only as I hear. And My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.

John 6:38 – For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but to do the will of Him who sent Me.

John 8:28 – So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing on My own, but speak exactly what the Father has taught Me.

John 12:49 – I have not spoken on My own, but the Father who sent Me has commanded Me what to say and how to say it.

John 12:50 – And I know that His command leads to eternal life. So I speak exactly what the Father has told Me to say.”

John 14:10 – Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you, I do not speak on My own. Instead, it is the Father dwelling in Me, carrying out His work.

  1. Great reminder Tamara, thanks for putting it out there! I love that when we remember that our old self was crucified with Christ and that we are now alive in him we can then move from conformity to the world to kingdom living. Hope you are having a good week!

  2. Amen. This speaks to me deeply, and rightly so, the Spirit convicts me and pushes my soul to work on things I need too. 🙂 We can always become better and improve our walk with Him. Why wouldn’t we after all? He’s the whole reason we’re here anyway. ❤
