The Way Scriptures…

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Every week we will share with you a few Scripture Pictures taken during my daily Bible Studies and then offer an Interpretation of the scriptures below them. This week we study 5 scriptures from the Old and New Testaments of the King James Version of the Bible with the primary focus on the words “the way”. Together we will look closely at what the Bible tells us about “the way” and how it applies to us as Christians. First we will read the scriptures together and then have an interpretation period following – much like at your home church.

Opening Prayer for Understanding

Heavenly Father as we read your word today let each word sink deep into our hearts and take firm root. Prepare our hearts for understanding so that we may reap the wisdom of your word. Bless our minds today Lord to accept and understand your precious Word – In Jesus Name we pray – Amen!

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

In the world you will find a million different man-made strategies that man has devised in an attempt to reach heaven and the afterlife. There are as many religions as there are people on this planet. Some worship creation, some the stars, some idols, and some other gods -all of these religions have one point – to satisfy the needs of our eternal spiritual side. Seven billion people seeking “something of a higher power” tells you we are born desiring a God. It is a built in need, just as strong as our desire for food, we are born seekers of a God. Jesus states here in John 14:6 that He IS the way, the TRUTH, and the LIFE. No man comes to the Father, but by him. That means quite literally he IS the way. The ONLY way to reach the Father – God Almighty – creator of heaven and earth. There can only be one God, and there is only one truth. Here Jesus is telling you he is that truth. You must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ in order to enter heaven. Many people make the mistake of believing that “truth” is contingent upon their opinions. The truth was true before you were born. The Universe did not pop into existence on the day you were born. Truth is eternal. Truth does not change. Truth is. So on the day before you were born, and your opinion had not been created, the truth still existed. That is a hard thing for the human brain to wrap itself around. The world and the TRUTH did exist before you and it will exist long after you and your opinions die -seek the truth – the TRUTH is Jesus Christ!

2 Samuel 22:31 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.
2 Samuel 22:31 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.

2 Samuel 22:31 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.

In second Samuel we read his way is perfect, absolutely perfect in every way & we can trust his plan and his direction for our lives. He loves us and has our best interest at heart even in correcting us. He is shepherding us towards his will to fulfill his purpose on earth as it is in heaven. By being willing servants and obeying his word we know that we are protected. This scripture is promising us protection by obeying The Word of God. The NIV version of this scripture reads “As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. What a beautiful word from the Lord this scripture is. This is a very comforting scripture for believers, his way is perfect, his word is flawless & he shields all who take refuge in him. Powerful.

Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

In Proverbs 3 we are told to acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths. Before you do anything you should seek the Lords will and wisdom. First we seek him in prayer and listen through reading The Word. The Lord often does speak to our hearts through prayer. We are encouraged to pray without ceasing in 1 Thessalonians 5:17. Our prayer life is important and so is our time spent in The Word – because God does speak to our heart through Scripture. The Word was given to speak to us, to guide us, and direct us in our paths here on earth. Acknowledging we need him to aid us in finding his will for our lives and that we seek his omnipotent wisdom in situations will ensure that we will be successful. In every single situation we face, in every conflict we are engaged in, struggle & opportunity, in every single relationship – seek him FIRST and he will direct your paths.

Mathew 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Mathew 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Mathew 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

In Mathew 7:14 we learn that straight is the gate and narrow is the way which leads unto life and few will find it. This scripture is speaking of the one and only way to find everlasting life, by accepting the Son of God – Jesus Christ as your personal savior. When you look at the world and its absolute endless buffet of religions it is easy to see why God told us wide is the path that leads to destruction. There are so many roads that lead to hell and only one little path that leads to heaven. Any religion or teaching that does not point you to the cross and claim Jesus Christ as the Son of God who died for your sins will lead you straight to damnation. Imagine if you had a sheet of paper on the left side you wrote all of the worlds religions, including atheism and agnosticism, and then thought for a moment about just how many people currently do not see Jesus Christ as their personal savior. Then on the right hand side of the paper list Jesus Christ and think for a moment about all of the Christians in the world who will see heaven. Although Christianity is a religion that does have many believers, there are more unbelievers or followers of false religions that will not lead them to the cross nor salvation. Take a moment to be thankful that you are on the narrow path leading to the straight gate!

1 Samuel 12:24 Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.
1 Samuel 12:24 Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

1 Samuel 12:24 Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

In the NIV Version “But be sure to fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.” we are told to consider all the great things the Lord has done for us. When you think of your own life you can start thanking him for an endless list of blessings I am sure. Family, friends, health, children, your home, your job, and the list goes on and on. The fact that we are alive, able to even read (literate) have access to the Internet (millions of people do not) are just a couple of things that you can be thankful for at this moment. The verse starts with ONLY fear the Lord though, what does that mean? The Lord is the only thing we are to ever fear. Why?  He has the power to destroy you, even the entire known universe if it pleased him, with only a word he could wipe human beings off the face of the earth.  He could easily eliminate us from being. God IS power. The power of life and the power of death. And not just physical death, but eternal death, the second death – damnation. That should be enough to make your mortal flesh and your eternal spirit fear him. The second part “serve him in truth with all your heart” means be honest with the Lord because you understand that he is capable of destroying you YET it goes onto say look at all the great things he has done for you. What a perfect example of Gods grace and compassion. He is ever so powerful – powerful enough to wipe every trace of all humanity from the memory of the universe – yet in your lifetime he has used that power to bless you and keep you safe from harm.  That is the amazing God we serve!
